Vernon Mingo, 39, admitted that he assaulted Correction Officer Jennifer Hayden at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville on April 24, 2018, Dutchess County District Attorney William Grady said

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Oct. 31, and is expected to receive a sentence of two to four years in state prison to run consecutively with his current sentence, the DA said.

“Correctional officers have very difficult and dangerous jobs," said Grady. " After simply being told to lock into his cell the inmate responded by punching Officer Hayden in the face causing injuries, not only endangering Officer Hayden but compromising the safety of the facility as a whole.”

Mingo is currently nearing the end of a sentence of 11 to 13 years sentence for criminal possession of a controlled substance and escape. He has a parole hearing scheduled in June, according to the Department of Corrections.
